My essay on Jimmy Carter and his fireside chat report on energy was the first time I focused on contextual analysis for a paper, rather than the textual analysis.
When revising it, I edited out unnecessary information to keep the essay focused on the economic situation and psychological condition of the country. Thus, the strength of the essay lies in its emphasis on context, the state of the USA during the 70s, rather than the actual speech, which was a proposed strategy for dealing with the energy crisis. In fact, one of the essay's strong points is that it hardly describes the president's plan for solving the country's energy problems. The main focus is the rhetorical context that Carter was handling.
